Snowcat Tours, operated by Mammoth Mountain, give you the chance to explore the backcountry from the comfort of a heated snowcat, and is the perfect way to unwind after a day on the slopes.

Each vehicle can hold up to 12 people, so it’s a great activity for families or large groups. Take in the views while snacking on chocolate-covered strawberries, a charcuterie board and a glass of wine. Backcountry Skiing and Riding

Nothing adds the cherry-on-top of a ski and snowboarding trip than riding fresh lines in the backcountry. Mammoth Lakes has two outfits offering the backcountry experience. They each offer a unique experience from the other and it’s worth taking a look booth.

High Sierra Snowcat & Yurt

High Sierra Snowcat & Yurt provides professional backcountry guiding with snowcat access to 9,000 acres of terrain and over 4,000 feet of vertical. Single guide day trips are available as well as multiple days trips with overnight lodging in a yurt. This experience requires advanced skiing and snowboarding skills determined by the guides.

Book a stay at 1849 Mountain Rentals for the family to experience Mammoth Mountain and other Mammoth Lakes’ amenities, while a few in the party venture out with High Sierra Snowcat & Yurts.

June Mountain Backcountry Tours

Sierra Mountain Guides offers guided backcountry ski and snowboard tours from the summit of June Mountain. From the summit, your group will take a short hike to access the terrain in this area. This experience requires advanced skiing and snowboarding skills determined by the guides.

If not everyone in the party has the skill level or desire to participate, they can enjoy a great day at June Mountain. This is a smaller mountain with gorgeous alp-like views and has a more intimate setting than Mammoth Mountain. We recommend joining a free 1-hour naturalist tour hosted by the US Forest Service.

Winter Fishing

Fishing isn’t limited to just the summer and fall months in the Mammoth Lakes. There are several areas that are open during the winter. We recommend hiring a guide to show you the best spots and the best bait. It’s a great time to learn how to fish and flyfish as well. Read this suggested 3-day itinerary by Visit Mammoth and guides in the area.
