Mammoth Mountain’s Canyon Lodge area opens its winter season with the Night of Lights celebration and ends the season with the Annual Pond Skim. Both of these exciting events take place at the base lodge, steps away from 1849 Mountain Rentals. Mammoth Mountain Annual Pond Skim
If you’ve never been to the Mammoth Lakes Pond Skim, you may be asking yourself what the event is all about. Costumed skiers and snowboarders will ride down a snowy slope to “skim” across a 100-foot pond of water. The costumes are always creative, and half of the fun is seeing the creative outfits people wear! Some contestants may even flip or jump to show off their skills on the way down the hill. Once they get to the bottom, they will have to glide across the open pond. This fun Mammoth Lakes event will take place on April 17th this year!
The Pond Skim will kick off at 2 pm, but spectators are recommended to get there in the morning to guarantee a prime viewing spot!
How to Register
The Mammoth Mountain Pond Skim will take place on April 17th, 2022 at Canyon Lodge, with registration beginning at 9 am. If you are interested in signing up for the event, we recommend lining up early since only the first 50 people in line will be able to compete. You must be in costume if you want to participate; the more creative, the better!
Note: If you are under 18 years of age and would like to sign up, you must have your parents sign a release form.
Canyon Lodge Afterparty
The fun isn’t over after the last skier skims over the pond. There will be an afterparty at the Canyon Beach Bar for the perfect end to this exciting event. This family-friendly party will host drinks and fun games for everyone to enjoy. It usually begins at 4 pm, but you can keep up to date with the Pond Skim on the Mammoth Mountain website.
