Canyon Lodge is conveniently located just steps from 1849 Mountain Rentals and is the most family-friendly base lodge. The benefits to this location are endless, but we’ll try to capture the highlights.

Canyon Lodge Services in Winter

Canyon Lodge’s Seasonal Open and Close Dates

Every base lodge on Mammoth Mountain has a different seasonal open and close date. Canyon Lodge typically opens the weekend before Christmas. On large storm years, the mountain will make a surprise announcement and open earlier. Canyon Lodge’s season comes to a close the weekend of the Annual Pond Skim.

Easy Access to the Entire Mountain

Canyon Lodge is located fairly close to the “middle” of the resort so it provides quick access to the Eagle Lodge and Main Lodge area lifts and runs. Eagle Lodge is one lift away and Main Lodge is only 2 lifts away. There are multiple ski lifts at Canyon Lodge with runs serving beginners to experts. It also provides easy access to multiple terrain parks.

Lodge Amenities

Canyon Lodge itself is filled with welcoming amenities, dining, bars, ski and snowboarding school for all ages, multiple ski lifts, and other family-friendly features. The lodge has been recently completed a gorgeous renovation that remodeled their food court and expanded the bar seating.

Steps to the Free Village Gondola

The complimentary Village Gondola is located here as well. Walk across the street to catch the gondola to the Village at Mammoth for coffee or lunch. Or ski down to the Village at Mammoth for lunch and then ride the free gondola back to Canyon Lodge and be on your way for afternoon turns.

Events at Canyon Lodge

Throughout the year, Canyon Lodge hosts live music and events. Two of the most cherished events in Mammoth Lakes take place at Canyon Lodge – Night of Lights and the Pond Skim. Canyon Lodge and the Village Gondola close after the spring Pond Skim event in April and remain closed until the following winter.

Summer Access for Mountain Biking

Mammoth Mountain Bike Trails are located directly across the street from 1849 Mountain Rentals. Once you have purchased your bike pass online or at the Village at Mammoth, you may simply bike across the street to access the trails!

Main Lodge & Adventure Center

Mammoth Mountain's Main Lodge

Winter Offerings – Main Lodge

The Main Lodge is the first lodge to open (typically the 2nd Thursday in November) and the last one to close for the season (sometimes as late as 4th of July). It sits at 9,000 feet and houses the Panorama Gondola that takes you to the summit at 11,053 feet. This is a full-service lodge offering retail, dining, childcare, and ski lessons. To get to Main Lodge from 1849 Mountain Rentals, simply take the Canyon Express to Chair 2 to Main Lodge.

Summer Offerings – Adventure Center

During the summer, the Panorama Gondola building turns into the Adventure Center which offers mountain biking and lessons, kids’ Eurobungee and climbing rock, the thrilling Via Ferrata and Mammoth Mega Zip, gondola rides and tickets to the Reds Meadow Scenic Shuttle. Phew! This is a “must visit” during summer.

Eagle Lodge

Eagle Lodge is only open for the winter season and is just one short chairlift (Chair 8) away from Canyon Lodge. The runs to Eagle Lodge can be a nice change of pace for skiers and riders looking for more mellow adventures. Eagle Lodge is small compared to the other lodges and caters to young children.

The Village at Mammoth

The Village at Mammoth isn’t located slopeside and isn’t technically a base lodge with full mountain services; however, Mammoth Mountain’s “Ski Back” trail does end here, and the Village Gondola to Mammoth Mountain’s Canyon Lodge embarks here. The Village is the center of Mammoth Lakes, and has some of the town’s most notable shopping, dining, and bars offerings, as well as year-round live music and events.

Lift tickets to Mammoth Mountain and Mammoth Bike Park are sold in The Village at Mammoth. During the summer, bike rentals are also available at the Village at Mammoth as well as the free shuttle to the Mammoth Bike Park Gondola at the Adventure Center. The Village at Mammoth also serves as the transportation hub for Mammoth Lakes. Simply take the free bus or the Village Gondola (during winter) to the Village at Mammoth to connect to points throughout Mammoth Lakes.

Access During Winter

1849 Mountain Rentals guests can simply walk across the street to take the complimentary Village Gondola to the Village at Mammoth for coffee, lunch or shopping. Skiers and riders can glide directly to the Village at Mammoth using the Ski Back Trail and then ride the Village Gondola back home to 1849 Mountain Rentals or to the Canyon Lodge lifts.

Access After Hours in Winter & Summer

The Village Gondola has the same operating hours and season as Mammoth Mountain’s Canyon Lodge. After the Village Gondola closes for the day or for the winter season, there is a free bus from your 1849 Mountain Rental that takes you directly to the Village at Mammoth.
