Mammoth Lakes is one of California’s top ski destinations. The winter enlivens with excited skiers navigating the often tricky slopes while the summer is filled with hiking adventures and ambitious ecotours through the California foothills.
But no matter the reason, Mammoth has a pretty obvious theme- food!
The food is amazing and the events are big. When you combine the two, you have some of the most exciting reasons to visit our Mammoth Lakes condos any time of the year. Below we cover our top 7 favorite annual events.
1. Villagefest
Villagefest is a local favorite in the heart of summer. Usually, in late July, Villagefest collects local rock and roll musicians and some of the best barbeque cooking anywhere. The highlight of the event is a massive burger battle cook-off.
2. Mammoth Festival Bluesapalooza
By sheer size, Bluesapalooza is, without a doubt, the biggest and most epic food and music festival of the year. It features music from reputable and long-standing acts in rock, blues, and jazz. Check out the lineup of the festival today! The event also showcases the deep and significant culture of micro-breweries in the region. The event boasts a presence of about 85 different local cider and craft beer providers.
3. The Open Air Arts and Crafts Festival
This summer classic is a long-standing local tradition nearing its 50th consecutive year. In late summer, master artisans gather to display jewelry, photographic art, beer and wine, and plenty of local food with a specific Sierra Mountain slant.
4. Mammoth Wine Weekend (Postponed until 2022)
Mammoth Wine Weekend advertises itself in the title. You know what you are in for! For a weekend in August, indulge in the amazing local wine in one of two main events: the wine walk and the Winemaker Dinner. The first is a tour through the Mammoth wineries and restaurants. The latter is a crescendo for the weekend- a big and bold wine-focused dinner across a few hand-selected Mammoth restaurants that rotate each year.
5. Oktoberfest
Of course Mammoth has its own Oktoberfest! This event, typically in late September, places extra focus on costume and beer. Indulge in everything Bavarian, from authentic music to classic dishes. The event is free to attend. Expect costume contests and the widespread presence of various micro-breweries in and around Mammoth.
The event signifies the beginning of the fall harvest. The crisp seasonal air keeps things light, breezy, and a blast.
6. Night of Lights
Night of Lights is an amazing event. Stop by the Canyon Lodge and snack on a mix of holiday treats and a special dinner. This is a family-friendly event, so expect games and other activities set up for everyone to enjoy.
The main attraction is the fireworks display, and it is an especially epic one. This is followed by a torchlight parade.
This event is typically two weeks before the Christmas season. Visitors can utilize the free gondola ride to and back from the mountain.
7. Mammoth Margarita
August’s Mammoth Margarita Festival brings out the best in tequila. With a variety of margaritas from over 25 regional distilleries, you have plenty of places to park down for an hour. The event is catered by Gomez Mexican Restaurant, a family-friendly full-service eatery known for its exceptional array of margaritas (and its stellar tacos!).
