5 Fun Things to Do in Mammoth Lakes Summer

No matter when you visit Mammoth Lakes, you will be welcome to an outdoor paradise where new adventures await around every corner. Summer visitors will have plenty of things to do in the Mammoth Lakes summer season to keep everyone entertained and enjoying the mountain sunshine. While staying in one of our lovely 1849 Mountain Rentals, you will have a wealth of outdoor activities available in your backyard. Whether you are an avid golfer, hiking enthusiast, expert angler, or water lover, here are five ways to keep the fun going all summer long.

1. Play a Round at the Mammoth Lakes Golf Courses

There are two Mammoth Lakes golf courses to choose from during your getaway.

The Sierra Star Golf Course has the distinct privilege of being California’s highest elevated 18-hole championship golf course, as it sits 8,000 feet above sea level. Make no mistake, this par 70 course is a brutal challenge, but it is definitely a fun one. If you want to improve your game, sign up for lessons with PGA professionals or use the practice facility to work on your short game.

Are you looking for something a little less challenging? Snowcreek Golf Course sits at the base of Sherwins Range, giving you a phenomenal view of both Mammoth Mountain and the White Mountains. This par-35 course has nine holes and has a clubhouse where you can visit the pro shop and eat at the café. Remember to don your appropriate golfing attire!

2. Explore Hiking Trails in Mammoth Lakes

Mammoth Lakes offers endless hiking opportunities in the Eastern Sierra. Just head out from your 1849 Mountain Rentals condo and plan your route around the Mammoth Lakes trail system. You can hike the path to Crystal Lake and back in less than 4 hours while taking in views of the gorgeous alpine-lined Lakes Basin.

Sherwin Lakes is another hike that takes less than 4 hours. The trailhead is located just east of town, winding past aspen groves, wildflowers, and lakes. This three-mile route is an excellent place to immerse yourself in nature this summer.
Not able to make a vigorous uphill hike? No worries! You can take a scenic gondola ride up Mammoth Mountain to access the mid-mountain or summit trails. Just make sure you pack all the appropriate gear!

3. Experience Fishing in the Eastern Sierras

Fishing is one of the most popular things to do in Mammoth Lakes in the summer. The Mammoth Lakes Basin has a bevy of beautiful lakes where you can set off on your fishing adventure. If you are looking to catch large fish, we recommend Lake Mary. There are colossal rainbow trout that swim the rivers around here, and there are native goldens and browns traversing the streams. 4. Kayak Alpine Lakes this Summer

Want to have a go at kayaking this summer? There are multiple lakes throughout the Mammoth Lakes area to paddle, including:

  • Mono Lake
  • Lake Mary
  • Lake George
  • Lake Crowley
