5 Fun Summer Things to Do in Mammoth Lakes

While you are staying in one of our lovely Mammoth Lakes condo rentals this summer, you will want to have plenty of fun things to do. Keeping the kids – and yourself – entertained is not always easy, but Mammoth Lakes has you covered! From golfing to motocross, here are some ideas for exciting things you can do near your Mammoth Lakes rentals this summer.

You will find that one beloved pastime is golfing in Mammoth Lakes, California. The Sierra Star Golf Course has the distinct privilege of being California’s highest elevated 18-hole championship golf course, as it sits 8,000 feet above sea level. Make no mistake, this par 70 course is a brutal challenge, but it is definitely a fun one. You can take lessons if you want to improve your swing, and cart and club rentals are available. Book your tee time online or call ahead, and take note that mid-week specials are often available.

Looking for something a little less challenging? Snowcreek Golf Course sits just at the base of Sherwins Range, giving you a phenomenal view of both Mammoth Mountain and the White Mountains. This par-35 course has 9 holes and has a clubhouse where you can visit the pro shop and eat at the café. Remember to don your appropriate golfing attire!

There are tons of hiking trails in Mammoth Lakes. Just head out from your Mammoth condos and plot a course around the trail system. You can hike the path to Crystal Lake and back in less than 4 hours, all the while taking in views of the gorgeous alpine-lined Lakes Basin.

Sherwin Lakes is another hike that takes less than 4 hours. The trailhead is located just east of town and is set at a lower elevation. It is a hike that is full of wildflowers and birds crooning their songs, so you will feel immersed in nature.

Not able to make a vigorous uphill hike? No worries! You can take a gorgeous gondola right up to the mid- or top-station and make the journey back downhill on foot. Just make sure you pack all the appropriate gear!

Fishing is a popular pastime in Mammoth Lakes. You can easily access great fishing spots from any of the Mammoth rentals. The Mammoth Lakes Basin has a bevvy of beautiful lakes, and if it is large fish you are looking for, give Lake Mary a trip. There are huge rainbow trout that swim the rivers around here, and there are native goldens and browns traversing the streams.

You can rent a boat and gear from the concessions stands at Convict Lake and the Lake Basin, so you will have all the equipment you need for fishing in Mammoth Lakes. Be sure to bring your license though!

Want to have a go at kayaking? It is leisurely yet enthralling, as it gives you a way to explore the waters. Just head out from Sierra Megeve and venture on over to Mono Lake’s Caldera Kayaks. There, you can rent a paddleboard or kayak and get right out onto the water. With its alkaline water and freshwater springs combined, this is the perfect spot for water sports.

You can also go kayaking at any of the other lakes. Lake Mary is 2.5 miles to the south of Mammoth Lakes and has a stunning view from 8,966 feet above sea level. Lake Mary Marina will have all the gear you need available to rent.

Mammoth Motocross happens every summer and has since 1968. While you won’t be able to enjoy it in 2020 due to concerns over COVID-19, you can take a crack at riding a dirt bike or ATV and imagining yourself on the course. Mountain biking is a beloved sport in Mammoth Lakes, and you can rent your own at Enjoy the Mountain. Take an ATV or Jeep tour with the kids! It is a great way to see Mammoth without hiking the whole way.
